Pumpkins Do Grow on Trees!

Last spring, Zach came home from school with a small pumpkin start. After letting it grow to more than a foot tall in my kitchen, we transferred it to our flower garden on the side of our house. From there the vines grew across the lawn, up the lilac bush and then up into the quaking aspen tree in the backyard. While watching this plant, we noticed many pumpkin starts but then they would all die. Soon, we had three good pumpkins:

Pumpkin #1 - on the vine in the lilac bush

Pumpkin #2 - Hanging, yes hanging behind the lilac bush
Pumpkin #3 - Growing behind the fence, using the quaking aspen for support

Pumpkins #1 and #2 soon rotted out and died on the vines. But pumpkin #3 continued to grow wedged between the tree and fence. A couple of days ago Jeremy and his friend Brian cut it down (check out the video)! Zach is very proud of this pumpkin and is anxious to take it to school to win a contest. We are just not sure how we are going to get it there!

"That's a lot of punkin' pie!"

I've never seen anything like that! Hilarious! I want to know how much that thing weighs! Your kids will NEVER forget it!

If he doesn't win the prize for the biggest pumpkin, he should definitely win some amazing award for the coolest, most unusual, and nature-defying growing location! How many other students, let alone anyone, could ever be able to say that they grew a pumpkin in a tree?! Seriously, I think this is one of the most incredible things we have ever seen! I literally had to scrape Jeff's jaw off the counter as he watched the video!!
